DOL / EBSA Fireside Chat!

PECA would like to welcome the US Department of Labor (USDOL) Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) back.   On May 11, 2023, from 12pm – 2:00pm, we are honored to have Scott C. Albert and Lynne McMennamin from EBSA’s Office of Chief Accountant (OCA) join us to talk about several current and important topics.  To ensure that the greatest number of folks can enjoy this time with our speakers, the event will be held over Zoom (link will be include after registration).

Topics for discussion will include:

-Updates to Form 5500 coming for 2023 filings, including the new schedules, participant counts, and other changes impacting MEPs and PEPs.

-VFCP changes.  The DOL issued proposed changes to the Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program, including updates regarding self-correction availability.

-Pooled employer plan audits (no longer considered limited scope)

 

Speaker Bio Information

Michael E. Auerbach, CPA, as the Chief Accountant, Employee Benefits Security Administration, Mr. Auerbach is responsible for managing the resources of the Office of the Chief Accountant and implementing various comprehensive, nationwide enforcement programs relating to certain provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).  He also provides ERISA related accounting and auditing technical expertise within the Employee Benefits Security Administration and is the liaison with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and other professional organizations.  Mr. Auerbach provides executive oversight and leadership for EBSA’s fiduciary oversight program for the federal government’s Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).  The TSP is the largest defined contribution plan in the world, with assets of in excess of $750 billion and 6.7 million participants.

 

Mr. Auerbach is a certified public accountant and earned his B.S. in accounting, from the University of Maryland.

 

 

Dawn Miatech-Plaska started at EBSA in May 2016 as an investigator at the WDO and transferred OE June 2019.  While there, she worked on numerous investigations, including LIUNA and WH Administrators.  Prior to joining the Department, Dawn worked for the National Automobile Dealers Association where she was a Compliance Analyst and Senior Plan Information Specialist.  Dawn is a graduate from the University of West Florida with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
